What data What to Eat uses, why, and how you control it. No small print.
Last updated: 30 September 2026
In short
- No account, email or password needed.
- Your data stays on your device and, if you use iCloud, in your private iCloud. The developer can't see it.
- Apple handles purchases: we never see your payment details.
- Ads only appear if you choose to watch one for extra passes. Google AdMob serves them and, in Europe, only with your consent.
- No analytics or tracking of our own. This website uses no cookies.
1.Who is responsible
The data controller is Alfonso Sánchez, the independent developer of What to Eat, based in Spain. For any privacy question, email setupremoto@gmail.com.
2.What data the app uses
What to Eat works without signing up. This is all the data it uses and why:
| Data | Why | Where it's stored |
|---|---|---|
| Optional name or nickname, country, adventure level, appearance and filters | To personalise the deck and the app | Device and private iCloud |
| Saved and skipped recipes, weekly plan and shopping-list ticks | So the app works and remembers what you do | Device and private iCloud |
| Daily pass counter, “What's in my kitchen?” ingredients and reminder time | So the app works | Device only |
| Subscription status (active or not, end of trial) | To unlock Premium and remind you before the trial ends | Apple and the device |
| Device identifiers, IP address and ad interaction data (only if you watch an ad) | To show and measure the ad and prevent fraud | Google AdMob |
We don't ask for or collect your real name, email, phone number, location, contacts, photos or health data. There are no accounts or public profiles.
3.iCloud
If iCloud is on, the app syncs your profile, saved and skipped recipes and weekly plan with the private CloudKit database linked to your Apple ID. That database is yours: the developer has no access to its contents. Apple protects it under its privacy policy.
You can turn off iCloud for What to Eat in iPhone Settings › your name › iCloud; the app keeps working on the device only.
4.Purchases and subscriptions
Subscriptions are bought and charged through Apple. The app only receives from StoreKit what it needs to know whether you have Premium: the product, the dates and whether you're on the free trial. It never receives or stores your payment details.
5.Advertising
Only in the free version, and only if you choose to, you can watch an ad for extra passes. Ads are served by Google AdMob (Google Ireland Limited), which may process device identifiers, IP address and ad usage data to show and measure the ad and prevent fraud, as an independent controller under its privacy policy (how Google uses data from apps that use its services).
- In the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland we ask for your consent before showing ads.
- On iOS you decide whether to allow tracking (App Tracking Transparency). If you don't, ads aren't personalised.
- You can change your choice at any time in Settings › About › Ad privacy choices.
- Premium shows no ads.
6.Notifications
The daily reminder and the end-of-trial reminder are local notifications: your own iPhone creates them. We use no notification servers or push tokens. You can turn them off in the app or in the iPhone settings.
7.Legal basis
- Providing the service you ask for (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR): storing your recipes, preferences and plan, syncing them with your iCloud and managing Premium.
- Your consent (Art. 6(1)(a)): ads and, where applicable, their personalisation. You can withdraw it at any time.
- Legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f)): replying to the support emails you send us.
8.How long data is kept
- On the device, until you delete it (Settings › Data and account › Delete my data) or uninstall the app.
- In your iCloud, until you delete it from the app or from the iCloud settings.
- Support emails, for as long as needed to deal with your request and at most two years.
- Ad data, according to Google's retention periods.
9.Your rights
You can exercise your rights of access, rectification, erasure, objection, restriction and portability, and withdraw your consent. The quickest way is in the app itself (delete data, ad privacy choices); for anything else, email setupremoto@gmail.com.
If you think we haven't handled your data properly, you can complain to the Spanish Data Protection Agency (AEPD) or to the authority in your country.
10.International transfers
Apple and Google may process data outside the European Economic Area. When they do, they use the safeguards the GDPR requires, such as the European Commission's standard contractual clauses or the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework.
11.Children
What to Eat is suitable for everyone, but it isn't aimed specifically at children. We don't knowingly collect data from children under 14.
12.Security
App data is stored with iOS Data Protection and travels encrypted to iCloud. This website is served over HTTPS.
13.This website
This website uses no cookies, analytics or third-party resources: fonts and images are served from here. The hosting provider may log technical data (such as IP address and date of visit) for a short time for security reasons.
14.Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the date above. If the change is significant, we'll also tell you in the app.
